Welcome to my blog.
My name is Siobhan O’Leary and I am studying for a Master of Arts in Technical Communication and E-Learning (MATCEL) at the University of Limerick (UL).
This blog will reflect on the tools, techniques and theories taught on the MATCEL course. There were many challenges encountered and part of learning how to overcome these difficulties helped to shape the experience. There was an exhilarating sense of relief with each assignment submitted. Sometimes it is hard to receive feedback but evaluating and understanding the comments are important as it enables growth and understanding of what is working and where attention is needed.
The blogs will be categorised into two main themes:
- The Collaboration Project: This is a virtual team project, I am in team 6 and we, the University of Limerick students, are working with technical communication students from Université Paris Diderot, Paris, France and University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida,USA.
- A review of the many theories and tools learnt and, where appropriate, how they can be applied to the summer development project.
Despite the avalanche of new content, that seems to last an entire semester, this course has improved my skill-set in more ways than I had originally anticipated. The opportunity to learn online has proved that without technology I, and many of my student colleagues, would not have been in a position to complete this course – unless we relocated to Limerick.
First time round at University, I studied engineering. Having completed my degree in Production Engineering Management in the UK, I moved back to Cork to work in various engineering roles within the pharmaceutical industry.
Being a mum to 4 very busy little beauties, there have been a lot of late nights and far too much coffee over the past year and a half. With the end in sight it is both exciting and hard to believe that persisting in my recent academic endeavours I will, hopefully, reignite my career in a new direction.
